 Bill Information[]

House Bill 165: an act relating to the disclosure of damages by motor vehicle dealers.

Sponsors: H. CollinsC. MillerJ. RichardsS. Riggs

Date Introduced: January 5th, 2016

Progress: Amended by Senate, sent back to House

What does it do?[]

Clarifies that sellers and dealers must disclose accident damage to a motor vehicle; raises the damage threshold for reporting from $1,000 to $2,500 (later lowered to $2000).

It also encompasses another bill that was attempting to get passed, SB 104, to allow special license plates to be made for Gold Star sons and daughters.

Political Arguments[]

Pros: Raises the amount of damage needed to disclose information about an accident when selling a vehicle. This will make it easier to sell used cars, since not as much damage will need to be reported.

Cons: It is unfair to not have to report an accident, if it less than a certain amount of damage.
