Bill Information Edit

House Bill 15

Title: AN ACT relating to governance of postsecondary education institutions.

Sponsors: Derrick Graham

Date Introduced: January 5th, 2016

Final Resolution: Law

What Does It Do? Edit

Would require new board members at Kentucky colleges and universities to complete an orientation and education program before being installed, and would also require that incumbent board members complete the same type of program to be eligible for a second term.

What Are the Politics? Edit

Pros Edit

This legislation would require a standard level of training for board members at Kentucky colleges of universities that would presumably improve board members abilities to deal with the complex and constantly changing problems that they face.

Cons Edit

There are always costs associated with new regulations. This training could be redundant for some board members.

What Happened Edit

HB 15 passed both houses with overwhelming majority support. It was signed into law on April 27th, 2016.
