Bill Information Edit

House Bill 81

Title: AN ACT relating to tuition waivers for foster children.

Sponsor: Linda Belcher

Date Introduced: 5 January 2016

Final Resolution: Dead

What Does It Do? Edit

Amend KRS 164.2847 to permit tuition waivers for foster children enrolled in a dual credit or dual enrollment course in high school.

What Are the Politics? Edit

Pros Edit

This legislation would expand opportunities for foster children to get college credit while they are still in high school. This could in turn lead to more foster children taking advantage of the opportunity of going to college.

Cons Edit

There is only so much money, and this provision would have to take money from another program.

What Happened? Edit

HB 81 died in the House Education Committee.
