Title: An ACT relating to nuclear power.
Sponsor: Sen. Danny Carroll
Date Introduced: 13 January 2016
What Does It Do?Edit
SB89 proposes for there to be a change in nuclear waste requirements. Rather than requiring nuclear power facilities to have a means for permanent storage, it allows such facilities to only be required to have a plan for storage of nuclear waste. It also eliminates the requirement of making known the cost of waste disposal, and it differentiates between the terms "low-level nuclear waste" and "mixed nuclear waste."
What Are the Politics?Edit
This bill is mostly Republican leaning.
Major Changes During ProcessEdit
Senate Bill 89 passed the Senate 28-6-1, but died in the House as it never made it out of the House Tourism & Development Committee.
